Move: In Progress™ - New Dance, Live in the Tees Valley
Platforming the next generation of dance work from the North East.
About Move: In Progress™.
Move: In Progress™ is Moving Art Management's independent scratch night that supports and platforms new dance work being made in the North East. A scratch night gives artists the chance to share works-in-progress with a live audience and receive real-time feedback — an essential part of the creative process that is rarely available outside of major cities.
TeesDance has partnered with Moving Art Management to bring two special editions of Move: In Progress to the Tees Valley — bringing this vital professional development opportunity to artists and audiences in a region that has historically had limited access to this kind of infrastructure.
Both editions were free to attend, supporting TeesDance's commitment to removing barriers to professional dance — whether you're an artist sharing work or an audience member discovering it.
⚲ Saltburn
Move: In Progress™ — Saltburn | November 2024
The first Tees Valley edition of Move: In Progress™ took place in Saltburn — bringing together North East dance artists to share early-stage work in an intimate coastal setting. Artists presented short extracts from work-in-progress, received structured feedback from peers and audiences, and connected with the wider North East dance community.
⚲ Hartlepool
Move: In Progress™ — June 2025
The second Tees Valley edition moved to Hartlepool — expanding the reach of Move: In Progress™ further across the Tees Valley and bringing new artists and audiences into contact with professional contemporary dance. The Hartlepool edition continued TeesDance's commitment to ensuring that every part of the Tees Valley has access to high-quality arts activity, not just the larger urban centres.
Why it matters.
Access to scratch nights, peer feedback, and professional development opportunities is something most dance artists in major cities take for granted. In the Tees Valley, it has historically been absent.
By bringing Move: In Progress™ to Saltburn and Hartlepool, TeesDance is actively building the professional infrastructure that local artists need to develop their practice — without having to leave the region to do it.
