Free dance for young people in care - MoveRise™.
About MoveRise™
MoveRise™ is a free, creative dance programme for young people aged 8-16 who have experience of the care system. Sessions are led by professional TeesDance dance artists at MyPlace in Middlesbrough, and are designed to be a space that genuinely belongs to the young people who come.
This isn't a class where someone stands at the front and you copy. MoveRise™ is collaborative — you're part of shaping what happens. Sessions involve creative movement, freestyle, music you actually want to hear, and space to experiment with your own ideas. The atmosphere is relaxed. There is no performance pressure and no judgement.
Some people come because they love dance. Some come because they want to try something new. Some come because it's a space that feels different from everything else in their week. All of those reasons are good enough.
This is for you if…
- You want to try something creative but don't know where to start
- You love music and want somewhere to put that energy
- You've danced before and want to keep going
- You've never danced and want to see what happens
- You want a space that feels genuinely yours — no expectations, no judgement
You don't need experience. You don't need to be fit.
You don't need to know anyone. You just need to show up.
For partners and commissioners.
MoveRise is delivered in partnership with trusted youth organisations across the Tees Valley. The programme is trauma-informed and designed to be responsive to the specific needs of young people experiencing care, homelessness, mental health challenges or exclusion. If you're a referral partner or commissioner and would like to discuss bringing MoveRise to your organisation, we'd love to hear from you.
